We are looking for an experienced Mechanical Fitter / Gearbox Technician to join a well-established engineering workshop in Auckland.
This is a hands-on workshop position focused predominantly on the assembly, repair and refurbishment of industrial gearboxes and mechanical components.
The work is carried out primarily at bench height in a workshop environment – there is no working at heights or crawling underneath vehicles or machinery.
Your day-to-day duties will include:
- Stripping down used gearboxes and mechanical assemblies
- Cleaning and inspecting components for wear or damage
- Assisting with repair and replacement of worn components
- Reassembling gearboxes and mechanical equipment
- Using hand and power tools safely and accurately
- Following technical instructions and maintaining a high standard of workmanship
What we're looking for:
- Ideally, you will have previous experience as a Mechanical Fitter, Maintenance Fitter, Diesel Mechanic, Gearbox Technician or Mechanical Assembler.
- Previous gearbox experience would be highly regarded, but isn't essential if you have strong mechanical knowledge and experience stripping and rebuilding mechanical equipment.
You will need:
- Strong mechanical aptitude and practical skills
- Experience dismantling and assembling mechanical components
- Confidence using hand, power and measuring tools
- Good attention to detail
- Ability to identify worn or damaged components
- A reliable attitude and willingness to learn
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a small workshop team
This will initially be a temporary assignment, however there is genuine potential for the right person to remain long-term and progress into a permanent position.
Hourly rate is negotiable depending on experience.
